Exes Are Fair Game

Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears haven’t been together for more than a decade. They met during the Mickey Mouse years, and dated from 2000 to 2002. Rumors have it that they broke up in 2002 after the legendary Ms. Britney Spears cheated on him.
There have been songs, on both sides, written about their relationship. From “Cry Me a River” and “What Goes Around(Comes Back Around)” by Justin to Britney’s “Everytime,” both haven’t exactly talked about the subject – but the songs and music videos have come out so it’s not impossible to imagine all that went down.
This has gained some controversy, and Justin, being the savvy Twitter user he is, took to his Twitter to dispel, or fuel, rumors that he was indeed talking about Britney. He talked about how he loves the entire “It’s Britney, Bitch” persona she has taken on, via a tweet.
It’s been four years since Justin has come out with a CD, meanwhile Britney, just wrapped up a successful worldwide tour, as well as her first season on live TV where she was a judge of the X-Factor, and then there’s the song “Scream and Shout” that she was featured in, where Will.I.Am  stole the “It’s Britney Bitch” sound-bite from Britney’s 2007 song, “Gimmie More.” It was number one for awhile, and the remix, with Lil Wayne also is getting plenty of attention.
I will not say that Justin shouldn’t have called Britney a bitch. I have a strong held believe that exes are fair game, especially with artists, who draw upon their life experiences to create. I enjoy all of the songs that Britney and Justin have allegedly written about each other. And I love a good old fashion Twitter war.
But what I don’t understand is that Justin himself says in “Cry Me a River” that “some things are better left unsaid.”
It’s been over a decade since the two of them dated, so why is Justin stirring up controversy now? Oh yes, he hasn’t released a CD in four years, and critics of “Suit and Tie” haven’t been friendly to the singer. I was looking forward to listening to new music by Justin, but the new song, which features Jay-Z frankly sucks. Sure, it’s gotten some attention from diehard fans, it has been four years after all, but Justin can do better, then having to diss an ex to better his music sales. He could simply make better music.
