Some anti-marriage equality fool in Illinois is spewing some hate speech I found particularily interesting on this lovely Arizona morning.
Just as the United States Supreme Court is deciding whether or not they will hear arguments regarding the validity to the 2008 gay marriage ban that voters stupidly passed in California, this Illinois state Senator, Bill Haine, who is a Democrat I would like to point out, is saying he fears that allowing gays to get married will eradicate marriage altogether.
Because allowing more people to get married is apparently how you get rid of the institution?
Not sure what his logic is, but the Huffington Post has the article. While saying this, Haine is pushing for a measure similar to proposition 8 in the state legislature there. He wants to define marriage in the state as a union between one man and one woman.
Haine is a bad Democrat. Because just this year, the President and Vice President, both whom were re-elected by a comfortable majority, stated their support for marriage equality. They are both Democrats. In fact, part of the Democratic plank now includes marriage equality. So to say that you do fear it will destroy marriage as we know it, well, good sir, is simply not a Democratic move.
In fact, it’s a dick move.
It’s a move that doesn’t seem to take in to account the relationships that gays and lesbians have. Because while the divorce rate for heterosexuals continues to rise, and more marriages end in divorce today than ever before, that isn’t the case with the gay community. Instead, we stay married, because we have waited to get married for a very long time.
Studies prove this. Take this awesome blog post, by Frederick Hertz, that came out a little over a year ago. It very clearly states: “the divorce rate is lower for same-sex couples than straight couples.”
It goes on to state: “About 1% of the total number of currently-married or registered same-sex couples get divorced each year, in comparison to about 2% of the total number of married straight couples. Note that the percentage of couples that get divorced eventually is close to 50%, but only 1% or 2% of them get divorced in any particular year.”
So basically, gays are getting divorced at half the rate of heterosexual couples.
When gays say “till death do us part” they apparently mean it. And so, Senator Haine, you awful Democrat, it’s not gays who are destorying marriage, it’s you.
So, please, sir, stop destroying marriage for the rest of us.
