When it comes to penises, all of the evidence has shown that circumcision is best. But according to the article I was alluding to before, it’s becoming less of a practice, and costing us more in the long term.
Here is the reality: Male circumcision is a fantastic way to dramatically curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. Some studies even suggest that circumcisions alone could help to end the global AIDS epidemic. Giving us a generation free of AIDS.
But there are folks to disagree.
Folks like the health insurance companies, who do not want to preform this procedure. Saying it is cosmetic. Never mind the cost of a single circumcision (for a newborn) is in the ballpark of around $100 dollars, and never mind that the cost of not doing it is over three hundred dollars per person. This is exactly what happened in Europe, as the San Francisco Chronicle article points out, and now they have generations of people with uncircumcised dick.
Yuck.
And it’s not very safe either.
Especially here in America. Currently in the United States we like to not show folks how to use condoms (though, if I had my way, we would be giving kids condoms already), which would help to reduce the spread of STD’s and HIV. When I went to France, I was impressed by how open they were about sexual health. They wanted to stop the spread the STD’s, so much so that they sold condoms on the street corners. Condoms stop the spread of diseases, obviously. But so does the male circumcision. Just as much, some suggest. And that’s why we need to keep doing it.
Awhile ago, I said that healthcare was a womyn’s right. I still stand by that statement, but healthcare is a man’s right too. Providing men with preventative healthcare like circumcision, will enable them to live longer, not spread diseases, and not cost us more. Womyn are fighting for family planning to be part of their healthcare coverage, and President Obama has received plenty of backlash for including a open and mostly free market for womyn’s reproductive healthcare.
Men need to be part of the conversation too. Because condoms are already cheap, and a wonderful way to help ensure safety and family planning. And for generations here in the United States, we have been circumcising most dicks.
There is no reason not to cut the cock now.
